Seriousness, security, soundness, and simplicity: those are principles upon which Mercantil do Brasil has, for over 60 years, trailed its course.
From the very beginning – in the 40s, in the city of Curvelo , Minas Gerais – to the further mergers, the institution has built a tradition of stability and soundness, investing in its own growth and in the development of the regions where it is present.
In the 60s, the then Banco Mercantil de Minas Gerais acquired Banco Industrial de Minas and Banks Santa Cruz and Metrópole, from Rio de Janeiro . In the 70s, it was the turn of Industrial de Campina Grande and Mercantil do Brasil – whose name it adopted ever since.
After that period of continuous growth, the Bank reached the 80s with approximately 100 branches, and a consolidated position in the financial market.
But Mercantil do Brasil wanted more: it strengthened its strategic position, enhanced its performance mechanisms and made its activities more dynamic, undergoing, in the turn of the century, a new expansion era. It invested heavily in technology and human resources; developing electronic customer service channels and either opening or revitalizing over a hundred branches – mainly in Southeast region.
Today, approximately 200 service locations are strategically distributed across the main Brazilian geographic and economic centers, with a higher concentration in Southeast area, especially in Minas Gerais. And Mercantil do Brasil does not stop growing. The bank carries on increasing its market share and expanding customer database, mainly investing in the development of its credit operations, as well as in spreading and enhancing fund raising, and in providing quality business and in maintaining excellence in customer services – which is the Mercantil do Brasil’s trademark.
